Our Home | An Giang

Located in Mekong Delta area of Vietnam, An Giang is a cultural hub of many indigenous groups including Khmer, Cham, and Chinese. Khmer ethnic people mostly live in the community of Bay Nui including two rural towns Tri Ton and Tinh Bien. Bay Nui is not only famous for beautiful scenery with mountains and paddle fields but also wildly grown palmyra trees. Even though palmyra trees can be found in other towns in An Giang too but they mostly grow wildly in Bay Nui area, where mostly Khmer ethnic people live and were famous for palmyra nectar production.

Why We Are Sustainable & Ethical

Palmania palmyra nectar is made from palmyra flower nectar of WILD palmyra (Borassus Flabellifer) trees in An Giang, Vietnam.

It takes a wildly grown palmyra tree in Vietnam at least 30 years till its first harvest. From this stage, the tree can be sustainably tapped until reaching its natural lifespan which can be over 100 years.

Palmyra nectar production is inherently ethical and sustainable because tapping does not harm the trees or shorten their lifespan.

How We Do?

Harvesting season is in the dry season in the south of Vietnam, which normally happens from November to June of the following year. To harvest the flower nectar, farmers climb the trees, make the cuts on the flower surface and put a container under that.

While palmyra flower nectar theoretically can be collected all year round, at Palmania, we only collect the flower nectar during harvesting season because of three reasons. Firstly, it is slippery and dangerous for our farmers to collect the sap during rainy season since the palmyra trees are really high (about 20 – 30 meters). Secondly, we always want to offer the best product quality to our customers because quality of palmyra flower nectar is best when it is collected during dry and hot weather. And lastly, we follow natural rules of Mother Nature so that our wildly grown palmyra trees can rest and accumulate nutrients for a new palmyra nectar season.
